Why monochrome?

I am not unique in being attracted to vivid, rich, psychedelic colours in any context, but my primary fascination is for abstraction and minimalism.

Monochrome photography and art overlaps abstract and minimalist imagery.

We do not see in black and white, so to deliberately film monochromatically or convert to greyscale is in itself an abstraction.

To dilute or completely desaturate  colour in order to enhance and focus on form, texture or detail is a reduction and minimising of the original.

Some really good monochromatic imagery has a greater emotional impact than its saturated version. JME
